A great album for Chad Mitchell Trio fans, includes many of their famous songs (but not "Super Skier") as a a reunion album, includes John Denver, who replaced Chad Mitchell later on in the trio when JD was an unknown singer/songwriter. Don't confuse this album with the Chad Mitchell Trio's first album of the same name, "Mighty Day on Campus." They are different. (The original "Mighty Day on Campus" album contains "Super Skier.") This album is "Mighty Day: The Chad Mitchell Trio Reunion."
As an aging 'Boomer, I remember when these guys first came out, and remembered the STRONG impact of their very socially-aware - and very pointed - songs, like the famous "John Birch Society" and the plaintive "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" and the lesser known, "What Hat Shall I Wear?", "Last Night I had the Strangest Dream" and "What Did You Learn in School Today?" I listened to them then when riots were breaking out, anti-war protests were a daily occurrence, and assassinations were terrifying us. Listening to these songs again in these equally difficult times, man, are those messages still CURRENT!!!
And if you are new to the CMT, and like their songs, check out the Kingston Trio. Contemporaries of CMT, they sound similar, have great banjo / guitar work and equally very tight harmonies - and also some pretty pointed - and totally relevant lyrics for today.
