Now coming out of the theater I feel really disappointed with the route they went with this movie. As a long time fan of the Jurassic series, the end of this trilogy was a let-down.
(SPOILERS)
Pros
-------
-Baby Velociraptor.
-Ian being once again the funniest character of this franchise.
-The whole gang is back together.
-Final battle scene between apex predators.
-Raptor chase up to the plane escape.
-Hilariously unfortunate death of that guy on the Segway.
-Raptor jumping beneath the ice as a surprise.
-Scene with all the locusts rising from the field gave me the chills.
Cons (oh boy)
--------
-Only suspenseful scenes are the raptor chase, and Claire crawling away from the Therizinosaurus. (my opinion.)
-There were only like 4 deaths throughout the entire movie. (At least ones we could see. THE DEER DOESNT COUNT.)
-"He slid in my DMs."
-Blue's screen-time was like 7 or 15 minutes. (maybe more or less)
-Kept teasing the original theme but then killing it off.
-Did not have a big bad dinosaur like the first two in the Jurassic World trilogy. (Indominus Rex and Indoraptor.) Albeit there was no true antagonist for Jurassic World (besides Victor and Wu) the Indominus Rex felt like the real villain. Its intelligence, abilities, and kill count was intimidating and it was the first real dinosaur I was scared of in the franchise. The Indoraptor was the copy-and-paste of the Indominus Rex which was not nearly as intimidating. I did have a good laugh when it played dead and killed the guy retrieving a tooth.
-Great pilot character begins to help main characters save the girl without much reason.
-Albeit great to see Dodgson as the primary villain his role wasn't all that intimidating and kind of a letdown. Even his motives and methods are bland. Dr. Wu will still be the true villain as always.
-There was no massacre like the first and second movie of JW. You had the Indominus Rex camouflaging and killing the troops, the raptors turning against Owen and the others and killing the squad. Even Fallen Kingdom had a "massacre" with the Indoraptor technicallyx, one of my favorite kills from that movie was when they reveal that Maisie was a clone and two guards are killed.
-Alan and Ellie at the movie finally get together but after what? They had their moments but there was no real romantic development between them. (At least that I could see) Must've just been the fact that they made it
out together.
-Maisie is one of the most poorly developed characters I've seen in this series...
-Why were Locusts one of the primary concerns of this film? I know they had to save Maisie and escape but, bugs? No more creating these dope hybrids or villains selling dinosaurs on the blackmarket or using them in attractions to bring in HEAPS of cash.. but the villain wants to use bugs to destroy crops and food that wild-life eats eventually leading to a famine that would starve everyone for money?
There are a lot of things wrong with this movie that I didn't cover and things I missed maybe. But this was just my opinion and don't take it for granted. Watch it yourself. But if you have and agree with me, buy a book about dinosaurs and read it, you'll probably get more enjoyment reading it than with this movie.
