The movie seemed to to quickly advance through certain parts and not spend enough time on others. I found myself rolling my eyes often at some of the action scenes. The director describes our hero as human and not a superhero but we have a movie with characters that can run up 30’ vertical walls.
Spoiler alert: some of the effects were poorly executed. Early in the movie, Child Mulan falls from the roof and the effects of how she grabs and saves herself just looked clunky and superhuman, not human as the director describes her. Another scene that had me completely ready to stop watching was the battle scene in which she is fully out as a female but yet not one member of her army notices her. She’s literally dropping the enemy left and right and flying all over the place and not one member of her army notices the woman kicking tail on the battlefield. She saves them all, and they don’t realize she did it. Then after the battle they see a woman there and decide to kick her out. This was poorly executed and is completely unrealistic.
I really wanted to love this movie... but I didn’t.
