After a life living abroad, reading this book was like having a conversation with a 20-year-old who is disappointed that the US is not perfect. Yes, that’s correct. But the author lacks the perspective or academic heft to write anything but a superficial view. It would have been nice if she had focused more on her life and work in Turkey, which is the best part of the book.
