I personally don't like this movie because it has bad writing and it has potential to wreak havoc in vulnerable womens lives in regards to the cringey power dynamics. If fifty shades of grey didn't ruin the reputation of BDSM, then this movie definetly has. IDK who wrote the damn movie, but so many scenes are generally unrealistic and simply don't make any sense. It's clear this movie just wanted to be known for the sex and erotica and whatnot.
As someone who is open about sexuality and healthy power dynamics, this movie does a well job in portraying unhealthy relationships and thinks alike. However there is no real message to this movie. The only message I could recieve from this movie is something along the lines of "if you have money/assert your power over women, you can make them do anything you want", which is exactly what happens in this movie.
Unlike fifty shades of grey, I found myself getting angry during this movie because of the blatant sexism and abuse with no healthy resolution whatsoever.
The only sane person in this movie is Laura's friend, and even she falls face first. This movie takes back feminism many years.
Not only that, Laura is seen to be a strong woman and by the end of the movie shes practically his puppet and his property (we already knew this).
The writers also missed an important and possibily potential aspects which were his mafia relations, Laura's pregnancy, Laura's ex boyfriend and her family.
We also see a scene where Missimo asks Laura to "help him be gentle" with her, which in a way she does accomplish but it's too indirect and isn't a full healthy resolution to his character development. Laura's character also didn't develop, it did the opposite.
The "erotic" sex scenes also got very repetitive throughout the film. In the beginning it was especially irritating to watch because they were too unrealistic. This movie is just an unhealthy abusive relationship fantasy come to life.
She also admits to "loving" him during a damn sex scene, which was hilarious to watch and I don't understand how people don't see the stupidity in that. And I can't really tell who is more stupid, Laura or her abusive counterpart.
The only way I would've enjoyed this movie is if they genuinely had some character development for the male and female, but they really don't. There is no lesson to be learned and the tiny portion where a lesson could be learned is ignored by excessive rich people things (parties, sex, etc.).
It's obvious this movie just wanted attention from the sex scenes/glamour and theyve obviously succeeded at that. But the least they could do is make the sex scenes less cringey, cliche and fake like porn which is probably the only sex education the writers got.
If there is no improvment to the characters, plot or cringeworthy sex scenes, then I would say the writers/directors failed at their job which they were already horrible at.
The only thing good about this movie is the visuals, class and camerawork, and anticipation making the audience want more, which in the end didn't make up for rest of the shittyness.
