Literally writing this review after just seeing it for the first time. Simply incredible and does a phenomenal job at retelling Brian Wilson's most critical moments in life, one of the best biopics in cinema I say. The cast and acting were on point, each person being easily recognizable of the role they were playing, especially the members of the Beach Boys, wonderful casting, and you really feel like you'd gone back in time to see these events unfold. One point I'd like to make though is that though some might not agree, I believe John Cusack gave justice to the role of older Brian, I think it fits and it's a damn shame he didn't get an award for his performance, but I'm really happy Paul Dano, who plays younger Brian, got the awards he deserved. Bill Camp (who plays Murry Wilson) and Paul Giamatti (who plays Eugene Landy) did excellent jobs as well really capturing how tyrannical and controlling these two were in Brian's life the portrayals were so good, funnily enough, I had begun to feel the real hate that I already do for Murry and Eugene whenever they came on screen, now that says something. Soundtrack is beautiful as well, always had a smile on my face whenever one of the classic Beach Boys songs had begun to play, really set the mood for some scenes. My last thought is the absolute tear-jerker ending/credits. Seriously, it brought tears to my eyes hearing "Wouldn't It Be Nice" come on while reading the happy ending that Brian received, it was simply blissful to read how he escaped Landy's clutches, Married and had children with Melinda (played by Elizabeth Banks), and in 2004, finally finished SMiLE. And if that wasn't enough, I began to tear up even more watching Brian perform "Love and Mercy" live, haha. All in all, a fantastic film, one of the greatest biopics I have ever seen with excellent casting, a beautiful soundtrack, and a perfect portrayal of these points in Brian's life. The man is a genius and it makes me happy that this film exists while he is still alive, an American Mozart I tell you, and a real inspiration. This is the film Brian Wilson deserves and I recommend all who are interested in this film to see it in its entirety with no distractions, it is a sight to behold, 5/5.
