Good idea, but story was too limited, not compelling. Michele Williams was good. Indian character good. Bleak high desert landscapes were good. The fear of unknown was good. But a story needs momentum, character depth, motivation. All lacking somewhat lacking here.
PS. I read what Naomi said about the area being so forbidding no one would cross it in a wagon. I've spent a lot of time there. Like most of Nevada, S Idaho, S Wyoming, Utah, etc. The Great Basin. Historically the area was avoided by Lewis and Clark due the threat posed by Indians. But it was a shortcut. People did try it. Then main reason so few people live there is it's
high altitude and dry. Possible frost and snow from Sept to sometimes late June. Few rivers, lots of lava and basalt. And it's beautiful.
