There were so many questions I had about this story. Did either have a job when they lost their house? Where did the monthly stipend come from? If it was government, wouldn't they get more if they established a residence? Was the "walk" about not wanting to go to work to survive?"
Where did the money for the cell phone come from? Why would you take this walk if your husband was dying? Was getting a job more odious than sleeping wet and cold? Where was the glory in that?
I failed to see what was learned from the walk. Obviously strenuous exercise help her husband. Cold, wet, starvation or lousy diet could no possibly do so.
I feel sorry for people who have no choices In life and no resources. These two did, intelligence being the most important. Could not feel sorry for people who continue to make bad decisions- forgetting to get water, not planning to camp before it is too dark or dangerous..... etc.
Obviously she was smart enough to write a book about it.
Poorly written, poor reasoning. I didn't feel sorry for them, just shook my head in wonder at how hard they were avoiding a job and a roof.
Of course they suffered a loss. Move on.
