Fauda was recommended to me by my friend and thankfully so, because I on my own wouldn't have ventured out to watch it. The name Fauda is unfamiliar to English speaking viewers because it's an Arabic word for Riot or Chaos.
Fauda is a powerful and action packed portrait about the curse of terrorism in general and it's impact on the lives of secret services agents, their colleagues and family members (especially children) in particular.
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter depending upon which side you are viewing it from. In war, there are no winners, only losers. Wars and conflicts play havoc in everyone's lives, the attacker as well as the victim. It converts normal human beings into demons. It ignites a never ending chain of revenge and counter attacks. The biggest casualty of such conflicts is none other than humanity itself. It appears we are victims of circumstances that are beyond our control. We are nothing but puppets of the Political games being played around the world. The question is what for? Fauda effectively compels you to introspect and find answers to the above conundrum.
So far three series have been released on Netflix and in all likelihood, more sequels may follow.
The story revolves around the lives of a anti-terrorist unit of Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). They conduct various missions inside Palestine. Heavy losses are sustained on both sides but being an Israeli series, the IDF unit has an upper hand. Although they are professionals but there are goof-ups.
The highlights of the series are that its:
Fast paced
Ruthless
Gripping
Realistic
Balanced
Love and betrayal
Very well Directed
Superb acting by every character
Outstanding cinematography
Last but not the least, Emotional.
My rating 5/5.
