"Scream VI" is a knockout. A huge improvement from its predecessor (which I did like.) It's a game changer for the "Scream" franchise. It's not like anything we've seen before, from the opening sequence all the way through the final act. This isn't the same "Scream" that we're used to, although they're still paying homage and showing love for the original quadrilogy.
It's dark. Very dark. The darkest "Scream" we've seen. And it's violent, very violent. More violent than any of the previous films. Moving the action to New York was a genius move.
Did I miss Sidney Prescott? Nope. Not a bit. There was no place for her in this movie. She actually would've dragged it down. If she wants to come back for "Scream VII", I'm sure they can find something for her to do, but she's no longer needed in the "Scream" universe. I hate to say it because I love her character so much, but the franchise is moving on from the past, as it needs to, and they're on the right track. The filmmakers are doing everything they need to do to guide these movies into their next incarnation.
Final score? 9/10. One point deducted for some cringe acting from someone who has more than enough acting experience to be able to handle a role in a slasher film with their eyes closed.
