You know all my friends told me the same thing, "The game is tearable don't get it, save your money." I didn't listen to them. After all how could one of my favorite game series be bad? Boy oh boy was I wrong, I really should have listened to them. The story absolutely butchered it for me. Because of the character, (Abby) that your forced to play as for the majority of the game, I found it very hard to enjoy. If you've played the first Last of Us, then steer clear from this sequel. Everything built up is torn down in front of you, and your left dumb founded on how and why Naughty Dog thought this was a good idea. I wanted to like this game, I really truly did. But this certain character in game that we have to play as killed it for me. I can't tell you how many times I thought to myself, "I thought this was Ellie's story." But the 10-15 hours of not playing as her told me I was wrong. And yes I get it Joel's hospital visit to pick up Ellie in the first game and Abby's dad, yes I get that. But did we really have to play as her? I would have been happy with a only Ellie story, that's what I was expecting, but sadly I was disappointed. Now some of the things I'm talking about might not make sense to a lot of people who haven't played the game for themselves, I'm just trying to avoid spoilers as best as I can.
I spent so long as Abby it made it feel like I only play as Ellie for an hour or two. However I will say this much. I can see why people liked it. I loved the raw gameplay of the game, the combat, graphics, music they are really good. The game LOOKS beautiful, if the story was different I definitely would have liked it a whole lot more. So if you can look past that then you got a pretty solid game. But like I said previously if you've played the first one steer clear, your not gonna like what you find.
