I give Avatar: The Way of Water a 78%. I was not a fan of the first Avatar with its atrocious “acting” and excuse of a story. I won’t be poking fun at its visuals even though people say they hold up, we must be watching different movies. Moving on, Avatar: The Way of Water outshines its predecessor ten fold, though being better does not mean you are amazing. The acting and story improved much more as if the director realized what was wrong with the first one and worked on it. However, the story and decision making gets ridiculous during the last 30 minutes. These ARE NOT SPOILERS, I counted four times where the group could have gotten to safety yet they went back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, from looking at the right choice and going back to danger FOUR TIMES. The story itself was alright, not too much to write home about but it wasn’t as bad as the first avatar. Moving away from why it’s not 100% in my book, it’s visually stunning but not all the time. Whenever it’s a scene during the day and there’s almost no shadow, everything looks so artificial. However, when they add just the slightest bit of color adjustment, everything looks amazing and I have no idea why they didn’t just go for that look the whole movie. That’s it, 78% in my book. The story and decisions at the end were so bad it knocked it down 20% and the other 2% from an easy color adjustment not made.
