My Thoughts on Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi
Reading Before the Coffee Gets Cold really made me think. This is one of those books that quietly sneaks up on you and stays with you. It made me realize that even though we can't change the past, we can change how we understand it—just by going back for a moment. That change in perspective can help us heal, move on, or simply see things in a different light. Sometimes, that’s enough to change how we feel or what we decide to do next.
What I loved most is how the novel is made up of four different stories. At first, they seem separate, but as you keep reading, you realize how beautifully they connect. Each one stands on its own, yet somehow, they feel like they belong together.
Every character’s story gave me something to think about. It showed me that in life, we really do need to try to understand things not just from our own perspective, but also from other people’s points of view. Sometimes, what we think is the full story is actually just one part of it—and we miss out on important details that could completely change how we feel or act.
Overall, this book was such a warm, emotional read. It’s quiet, but it hits deep. It’s the kind of story that makes you reflect on your own life, your relationships, and those small “what if” moments we all carry. This story will speak to you. I didn’t expect to feel so much while reading it, but I’m really glad I did.
And this is definitely a 5-star for me.
