Well — interesting topic but honestly I didn’t think the writing was great. The dialogue sounded unnatural at some points, and the author seemed gleeful to report every unpleasant thing that happened or was said to her characters. I was 11 in 1963 so can remember the time from a child’s perspective. I wish the author had put in more details about daily life in that time. Overall, it was a good topic that unfortunately received heavy-handed treatment.
