I give it 8.5 out of 10. Good cast, twisty plot, moves along briskly In my view, there is not a single likable character. The husband and wife team profess love and devotion, but their actions are not a bit convincing. Blanchett is in a terrible, unflattering dark wig. The cinematography was very muddy and dark, to the point of being annoying.

I love the books so had doubts about this series. It’s terrific, though different from the books, less cozy and darker. Molina is perfectly cast as Gamache, and all the acting is excellent. I binged the whole thing, and hope they make a second series. Highly recommended.

I was disappointed and exasperated by this critically acclaimed movie, which no doubt will garner a lot of awards. I can’t fault the skillful acting or the scenery. But the story is preposterous. The two main characters’ actions were not believable to me. The film also manages to include every cringeworthy cliche about rural Irish people: they’re mostly dim, inbred drunks, emotionally repressed, incurious about the outside world, and bedeviled by a repressive church. The excellent actors deserved a better screenplay.

Bridges and Lithgow are great. The first two episodes were worth watching. Then the show devolves into slow, pretentious soap opera. Brenneman’s character and actions are preposterous and add nothing but annoyance and a lot of time wasted. It’s too bad the show went downhill so quickly.

Worth watching. The casting and acting are excellent. The lead actor always looks like he hasn’t showered in days, not a good look for a chef/restaurant owner. If you’ve ever worked in a restaurant you’ll relate to this show.

Just watched this series. A poor man’s simplified Homeland without the terrific anchoring performances of Claire Danes and others. The actress playing Pia was very annoying and kept crying/screaming constantly. Likewise, the actress playing her mother was grating and unconvincing. The plot was predictable and melodramatic. Overall, it’s quite tense and sad. I kind of hate-watched this.

Excellent show that is worthy of the heartfelt, sometimes funny book. Hahn is very good and the quality of the writing is above average. I’m on episode 6 and enjoying it. Clare is a mess and undeniably annoying at times, but she’s got a good heart. If you like this show, you’d probably like the book.

Terrific show. Sewell and Russell are excellent, as are all the supporting cast. The show keeps you guessing and is witty and well written. It’s up there with West Wing and Homeland, in my opinion. I will definitely watch the second season.

I’m in season 1, liking this show a lot. Everett is terrific and I did not know she can sing, too. The show has warmth, quirky humor and a very good cast. I’ll keep watching.
