Probably one of the best movies I have seen in the theatre for a long time. Sooo entertaining! Nostalgic for me as a kid playing with Barbie’s. Really funny and also emotionally moving. Great acting and writing, With subtle nuances that are brilliant. Overarching themes and storyline is emotionally moving and layered. I personally was worried after seeing the polarization of reviews that this movie would be “man hating” as some say. However i did not see that at all. Actually talks about gender as male or female and the roles we feel we were made to play. How we do not need to play out or be these roles as our identity. It talks about kens experience a lot and how men have made to feel like they need material things or pretty women around them to feel like a “man”. And for the pressure people feel to fit into identity roles. I feel a bit sad about how polarizing reviews are as it is reflective and ironic about the realities this movie discusses. I feel like this movie was more made as a nostalgic piece and message for todays generation of parents who collected and played with Barbies rather than for children today tbh. However, it was still lots of fun and I think still entertaining for kids. At the end of the day - go see the movie and decide for yourself. I feel like people who find it “man hating” need to think about why this is so threatening, unsettling and disturbing for them to accept seeing a movie which flips stereotypical gender roles on its head.
