Although, not 100% perfect, this remains to be an extremely well acted film amoungst all of the cast members, especially Jake Gylenhaal and Jamie Foxx. Jake Gylenhaal does not just play the main character in this film, but also narrates it. I can imagine that SOME watchers may find his narration distracting and pointless, but I think it helps the atmosphere of being alone, and gives us an insight into his thoughts. Jamie Foxx also gives an amazingly realistic and tough performance of a staff Sargent, and pulls it off well.
My main problems with the film start after the 40 minute mark. The first 20 minutes of the film (in my opinion) are more or less flawless. They all build up for the soldiers being deployed in Afghanistan, and destroying Sadam Hussein. However, when they get there, they just spend more of their time messing around, and not actually doing anything! This means that everything that the film has been building for is now wasted, with a second half with little to no action. However, the ending to the film for me makes up for it, with a great soundtrack and a sad ending.
