Tiresome. Sheridan Smith was not convincing and over acted, without nuance. Too often she overplays the strong, confident woman of the family with all around looking to her to lead the way with a weak husband. Her smiling and nodding in court when the victim’s mother’s homophobia was revealed was an obvious signal that it was the wrong approach. Perhaps it’s the fault of the script writer or the director and not her, but I have noticed similar faults with her in other roles; she seems to have become a “lovey”.
