Certainly an interesting group of reviews. I found the film hard to watch, and also riveting . I think we need to keep in mind. It’s set over 10 days . I’m also a addict in recovery,I found it really powerful to watch. I certainly agree with one of the other reviews that talks about being in detox and have a little support she got , what a joke three days. You see the three patients in distress, and in pain. I don’t believe that’s true representation. I’m pretty sure that none of that would take place in a medical detox. It just looks like suffering to me.. I have been through detox three times. I’ve been clean now for 11 years. I think Glenn Close was amazing, Mila Kunis did a wonderful job of playing an addict, and reaching the end of the road, we’ve just had enough. One of the lucky ones I guess like myself. I do you realise the characters fictional. But identifiable.
What I find interesting is that people always look for the weakness in the person that ends up being the addict. But you need to look deeper into people stories to find out the reason. People just don’t end up wanting to ruin their lives. I think they did a good job of telling us as much as they could’ve in the time frame.
I just read another review from a year ago, I wish I could write as eloquently is the person did. I think that they’re right perhaps you do need to have a I lived experience I’ve resin addict or as a loved one. I had quite an in-depth discussion with my son tonight about what it was like for him to watch me.
I realise this is a forum for me to speak about myself, but certainly a story that needs to be told with compassion. And I believe it Jt I enjoyed reading your thoughts on this movie.
