The effects and visuals were good. The music is nostalgic and as good as they were in the original. The actors were decent with what they given, and I think the fight choreographies and actions scenes were pretty well scripted. Unfortunately, all the goods things about is dragged down by the terrible and inconsistent writing and pacing. There is far too much exposition and dialogue that feels repetitive or unnecessary. The things the characters say and do seem inconsistent and I'm not even sure if all the exposition had a point or had a message it wanted to tell the audience. The pacing feels off and there were moments that were supposed to be emotional climaxes but they felt flat because of the writing and pacing. The music swelled and the actors acted emotional, but to me, it often did not feel earned. The claim that the showrunner was going for a more mature take on the original animated show feels untrue to me as although we are shown death in the live action, we don't feel the weight of the death as much as it was shown in the original. It may be more ready to show the audience more explicitly mature scenes, but no where near as emotionally mature as the original animated series.
