Disappointing to me; I thought it overly melodramatic. Joan Crawford's character was unconvincing to me. She switches from overbearing and overconfident to a sniveling, hysterical weakling. This would be more convincing if her relationship with Gavin had developed more but it was too sudden of a change in her character to be convincing or to win over my sympathy. I mean, come on, you are going to drown yourself because your future husband expressed disappointment that you weren't attending his performance? A more realistic ending would have been her drowning herself in alcohol...
