I love this movie! Such an inspiration as a “single (for now) mom.” At first I didn’t appreciate the social/racial tropes & “ghetto cliches”, however I respect that this is the reality of some. For me it was relatable in regards to parenting independently and having deprioritized my needs for intimacy and love as a mom of one school age son. That said, the film gave me great hope and expanded my imagination on finding love, as well as affirming my desire for my son to be loved and accepted as Jess did Randy. I really liked the spiritual and cultural nods; the support community members gave and the unconditional love shown, enduring love through fears and addiction. Overall beautiful story...it’s been years since a movie brought tears to my eyes, great work!
