Just watched Panoramas’ report regarding cobalt mining for use in batteries of EV cars. The focus was predominantly on Tesla & to a lesser degree other manufactures of EV cars. It portrayed Tesla as the bad company using local communities who are being forced to mine for the mineral just to survive. Which in fact they have to. The programme paid a great deal of attention on the Nuns fighting their cause for improved living standards. Good for them.
What I am annoyed about with this programme was the little mention of the corrupt governance of the mining Industry in DRC. Yes,there was mention of Dan Gertler who is as crooked as a man can be. But surely one has to review the whole governmental approach of the DRC political leaders who are obviously filling their bank accounts by either turning a blind eye or because they are part of the corrupt process. Just remind yourself of the history of the DRC governments as to what is going on in that country, diamonds & other precious minerals come to mind. Panorama failed to mention a single word about the governance & the responsibility they hold. Shame on you !
