I was skeptical reading about a young woman’s experience as a nurse on the front lines of the Vietnam War. Frankie’s story was so compelling and helped the reader see the realities of the war in the eyes of the women and men that served. The book chronicled Frankie’s return from 2 years of service and how as a female she was made to feel ashamed of her service to our country and how PTSD impacts war veterans. This book made me cry, laugh, angry, and really appreciate how women had to constantly fight to be recognized and treated equally. The best book I have read in a long time.
