I saw a clip of Amber Ruffin talking about the result of the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict which I found concerning because of assumed facts that she wrongly stated that have probably unnecessarily perpetuated division. For starters, Mr Rittenhouse did not carry the rifle over state lines. It was being kept at his friend’s house in Kenosha. The gun charge was dropped (far later than it should have been) because on further examination of the law, as a 17yr old, it was shown that he was not outside the law on this. Also, it may surprise you to learn that NONE of the charges were about the shooting of anyone of colour. Mr Rittenhouse was under attack and his life was threatened by all three of the now rightly described “assailants” as opposed to victims. They were white and incidentally, had previous rap charges you probably haven’t seen. (These were not divulged to the jury either so this wouldn’t influence their decision-making but you might be glad to know we have one less pedophile now.) He was there to help protect businesses on request from the owners and his aim was to provide medical care to anyone who needed it and to put fires out - all because the emergency services were under attack and not able to provide normal assistance. He had a rifle in case he needed it for self-defence and that turned out to be exactly what he needed it for. The evidence in the case had to be carefully judged by the jury according to the law and they took quite some time to do this. Either decision could have been seen to embolden one side or the other. Either people with weapons or people burning towns down. So, Amber using her platform to inflame the result with opinions that grossly misrepresent the facts to conflate with a racial issue are dangerous and irresponsible. I’d recommend taking a look at some “Nate the lawyer” videos on this case to understand it better. The whole thing has been used politically and misrepresented on mainstream media for over a year, seemingly to drive division and thankfully seems to be driving many of their ratings down as people find more reliable sources from which to derive their knowledge and opinions.
