Sia just used autism as a means of glorifying a neurotypical character for helping the special needs person. She made the character do stupid things autistic people do not and used famously dangerous forms of restraint as a means of character development for the neurotypical character. As an autistic person I am hurt by how little care was put into making a movie ABOUT US. By using us as stepping stones to make a neurotypical person "look good" and how the only source she used for autism research is the highly controversial Autism Speaks organization, which VERY famously called a hate group by the community. Even the overly colorful and busy songs are too much sensory overload for some autistic people to even look at. She made us seem dumb and helpless and the fact that it was nominated for a Golden Globe just tells you how little people care about my community, even when we are talking about a movie that is supposed to be about us.
