Edit: For people blaming Square Enix for being lazy, or for the game being disappointing, know that Disney made them change the whole game at least once, and change multiple other things several times, as well as forced them to remove pretty much everything Square Enix related in favor of all Disney material and the joint characters.
This game would have been released three, maybe four years, five max after KH2, but Disney set it back several times.
This game could have been truly amazing building off of Kingdom Hearts II, and had so much hype with what was shown as a teaser in the second game if Disney had just been able to keep their money-grubbing fingers out of the pie.
It wasn't all terrible, there was certainly some fun to be had, but it did not even come close to living up to the first two games, and so many of the things that I had come to love from its predecessors Disney removed in favor of further pushing their marketing agenda.
I feel really sorry for the Square Enix staff that put their hearts and souls into this project, only to have Disney change it so much under them, stifle their vision, replaced one of the most fun game mechanics with Disney rides, and completely removed their characters from what was supposed to have been a joint project. I think that was the worst dis Disney imposed on them of all. It was not even a collab game anymore at its final major installment.
I was so excited for this game... and felt devastated to learn what had become of something that could have been as epic as KH2 had been so many years ago.
I got the game two years ago, and still haven't worked up the interest to finish the rest of it.
More and more, I lose faith in Disney.
Only reason I'm giving this a three-star is that Square Enix still tried their best with what they had to work with.
