I've done a little rock climbing, so the technical part is somewhat familiar to me, but to see these techniques put into practice in extraordinary circumstances is beyond impressive.
The portrait of the climber and his GF is poignant. It raises all kinds of interesting questions about personality types and the neurological nature of emotions. I'm a pediatric neurologist, and I was intrigued about Alex. Is he Asperger's (though I have never known autistic adults to be quite so fearless) as is suggested? Or, without taking anything away from his inspiring achievement, is he a narcissist? What is the relationship between such terms? No one knows, but maybe this film will start the conversation.
