I’m surprised by all the hate. Ok, the price is too much but the game itself is quite good. Aside from a somewhat empty open world, lack of 200cc, classic grand pix, and the inclusion of a few other smaller strange design choices, the game is great fun. Roaming around in the open world can be fun to just mess around and explore the scenery and p switch missions, racing around freely on the roads and just sightseeing. Knockout tour is pretty fun, the intermission tracks were better than I expected judging from the hate (though I haven’t experienced them all yet), it’s fun to go from edge to edge in this big interconnected world with all the chaos. Grand pix is also quite fun. Overall, the game is a solid 8/10 for me.

The game is burdened by a host of limitations that ultimately hold back its creative potential. One of the most glaring issues is how small and short the playable areas remain, which significantly restricts the scale and ambition of levels. Why not have 3 possible subareas and bigger ones? There's also a lack of an infinite timer option which is one of the most requested features during MM1. On top of that, level themes are frustratingly rigid, as liquids like lava, water, and poison are locked to only two themes for some reason. This prevents creative combinations like lava forests, lava grassy plains, poison deserts, or haunted house lava levels. It's impossible to make such combinations, which completely goes against this game's supposed "experimentation" philosophy. Nintendo tried to add more variation with the new night themes but failed miserably. They all look exactly the same which is really strange given that different themes solely exist to give visual variety. And the music is really bad too, which honestly has made many people not want to use them. They all have their own unique effects like sandstorms, low gravity, the level turning upside down, etc, which is again a horrible way to implement such things and removes experimentation. A lava underground level with darkness isn't possible, so is a submerged airship with a sandstorm during the night, a waterless forest with low gravity, or a castle filled with poison, with a slippery floor, at night, nothing of this is possible, at all. Now, do you see how unfathomably much missed potential this game has? It'd be much better to have the night themes as additional aesthetic variations with no preloaded effects and let the player freely choose the effect(s) as a level setting instead. Paired with liquid freedom, this would open up countless possibilities and combinations, yet Nintendo decided to not let the player experiment, not even an inch, which is extremely sad and counteractive to what the game is supposed to be. Moving on, it's also strange that there barely are any new enemies in the game, and a lot of the requested ones like firebros and Porkupuffers are locked behind 3D World for some bizarre reason. The world maker, which was added in one of the content updates, feels very restricted as well and is limited to the Super Mario World style. We can go on and on with the game's unnecessary limitations. All these constraints combine to create an experience that feels unnecessarily restrictive. Instead of being a playground for creativity, the game ends up feeling far too constrained and underwhelming.

Most of the recent negative reviews are purely because of this game winning GOTY. This game is good and great fun, so don't listen to these salty people creating unfair reviews of this game.

Amazing Game. Lacks slightly in story and atmosphere compared to the first game, and I wish it had slightly more exploration moments like the first game too. But the level design, presentation, music, and everything else is just amazing. This game offers a thrilling experience not many other platformers can offer.

This game is just disappointing, that's just the truth. Please Don't listen to these other people praising this game, they don't know what they're talking about. They're submerged in their self-dishonesty and cannot simply accept that Nintendo created an outright bad game and sequel. Tears of the Kingdom is supposed to be a sequel to Breath of the Wild. But it does such a poor job at it to the point where realizing it takes your soul away from you. This game leaches on its prequel to be good. It would never stand on its own legs. It essentially reuses the same map, armor, enemies, and much more, so you'll just end up roaming around as if you're playing BOTW with some extra abilities 80% of the time. The new stuff this game does has so much potential sucked away that the game feels like an unfinished alpha version than an actual real game, which is weird when Nintendo apparently gave themselves a whole year to polish the game. The Sky islands are so disappointing, they're way too few and most are copy-and-paste challenges. The depths are poorly made, making me question if this even is a Nintendo game. They stretch out as much as the overground map, which is HUGE, but consists of the same boring biome throughout. Its mostly copy-and-paste structures offer almost no depth, and paried with the depths lack of variety, it's all just screaming missed potential. The story is so bad and just copies the original game but with new skin. This game is so bad and it doesn't deserve all the amazing reviews, praise and sales.
