It's five months since I saw this film (twice), so this isn't a breathless rave. But it's still a rave, well considered. Past Lives is in my all-time Top Five, for its thoughtful (if calculated) cinematography, moments that provoke deep thought later on, and presumably authentic insights into a foreign culture and its diaspora. A sudden separation that remains open for decades, then is resolved (and not) just as in the film - how many of us have had that experience? The film captures those feelings beautifully.
