I enjoyed the way Gervais was able to bring humanity to each of the characters, while showing their flaws. They weren't all lovable all the time, but if you take the time to see and hear the people in the show (and people we encounter in real life), you learn a bit about why they are the way they are, and a bit about one's self at the same time.
