I really couldn't get into this audiobook. The narrator is Whoopi Goldberg and while I know she has acting experience, it's clear she doesn't have narrator experience. Instead of telling the story in 3D as some narrators are able to do flawlessly, she's simply reading from a book. For audio book listeners, you know what I'm talking about. In her narration, the characters are one dimensional and is largely a reason why I was unable to get into this audiobook. This might be something that I'd rather pick up and read then listen to.

An amazing and well written book. The whole memoir transports the reader as the observer at each age and through each struggle including the crux of her co-dependent relationship with her manipulative mother. A strong and confident woman who has learned how to step out of past shadows and stand firm in the spotlight of "her" life. This book is especially relatable to anyone who has mamma trauma or self harming obsessions. It serves as a fulcrum to healing and will be an inspiration to many.
