It’s like they couldn’t create a remake without focusing on race politics and it’s sad. In 2020 race politics is shoved down our throats and this movie aims to train children to also think in race politics at an early age. What ever happened to training kids that everyone is equal and to respect each-other?? Instead this movie shows children a very different message. It simultaneously shows them that people of colour are all victims, and are lower class, and as a result undermines people of colours’ culture history and strength. Doing away with the idea of pride and honour. and instead showing weakness and oppression. Going beyond that distasteful theme, the casting is poor, Angelica Huston from the original is both a fantastic actor and really sells the creepiness. The remake stars Anne Hathaway and does not sell the creepiness and she is very much less sinister in her acting. And the special effects from the remake focuses entirely on CGI and, where the original was focused on Jim Hanson’s stage craft, and complementary minimal special effects, which gave the original a more organic real feel.
