So difficult to tell this story, to address this painful subject in 90 minutes but I was very moved by this film. We all need to look at this terrible stain on our society of racial profiling, hate and distrust and realize it is real and so complicated to unwind. American Skin examined the issues and really made me think what it must feel like to not feel safe. Yes, making a film within a film is hard to pull off and didn't necessarily work throughout, but I don't understand why some reviewers disliked this film so much. Perhaps it hit too close to home?
