Perhaps too clever for mainstream broadcast TV? A sardonic sitcom with a razor-sharp wit surrounding a sweet, soft centre. This is from the era when the Fox Network would greenlight bold ideas - then kill them in the crib when they didn't immediately find their audience and take off. (I think of it as the "reverse-NBC" approach of slogging along with something promising until it finds itself - like Seinfeld) It also didn't help that CBS launched "Joan of Arcadia" - a very similar formula ....minus the wit and edgy humour - at around the same time. If you haven't seen this gem, seek it out and binge its solitary season (only a handful of episodes actually aired before it was put-down, but Fox released the whole season to home video). You will be glad you did.
