This movie is absolutely amazing, for a few reasons:
One, it has many masterfully set jump scares that really get you even if you are expecting them. I have watched this movie 3 times and still jump at them. If you plan to watch this movie for the first time, DO NOT watch the trailer, as it ruins one of the best jump scares in the movie. The majority of these scares are done super well, and they catch me off guard every time.
Two, the movie is shot beautifully, with many crazy and wonderful shots that make me dizzy, similar to those shot in Midsommar.
Three, the music in this is so well done, it is genuinely terrifying and knows exactly when to cut and play.Cristobal Tapia de Veer is certainly very talented and i will certainly be looking out for his name in future movies.
Four, the gore. If you are squeamish, i wouldn't recommend this movie as there is some pretty intense stuff, right at the beginning, but that is not the main premise of this movie, it focuses mainly on the trauma of a person and how it can affect someone mentally and physically, as represented through a monster.
Five, the actual plot. Surprisingly, i would consider this movie much more of a slow burn, as when going into it, i thought it would be straight up intense gore and scary. However, that was not the case, but i am glad it ended being that way. This movie is just relentless tension, and i felt uncomfortable throughout the entire movie, which for me is what i want in a horror movie. I would compare it to the movies The Ring and It Follows.
And finally, six, the acting. The main actress, Sosie Bacon, does such a great job of someone slowly feeling as though she is losing her mind, yet putting those feelings away and pretending everything is okay, when in actual fact, they are not. All of the other actors are great, and provide a little bit of comic relief. The acting is all so real which is what makes this movie work so well too.
Overall, this movie is an intense, creepy, terrifying and trauma filled ride of emotions. This movie definitely made an impression, and it is 100 percent one of my favourite horror movies of all time. 10/10 would recommend if you want to be terrified for many days after.
