Fox Emerson

I'm a little shocked to see so many 5* reviews from high profile critics. Did we watch the same movie? It was lifeless, slow, devoid of a solid story and filled with scenes of Brad Pitt posing, deep in thought or delivering one liners. There were some cool scenes, the antenna, a fascinating journey to Mars and beyond but a lack of momentum.

(Contains Spoilers) I sat through the whole movie and then had to Google what it was about in dire hopes someone would point out that I'd missed the point, and that the movie had outsmarted me. Unfortunately, the movie turned out to be pointless to me. One of those endings that left me annoyed. I simply wanted to know why the ship had to leave Mills' home planet, where was he taking Koa? And after that whole movie what was the actual point? Far too many questions, but by the time the movie was finished I didn't care that much. I hoped in vain I'd missed something. A quick rewrite of the script could potentially have averted this disaster of a movie by giving it a clear purpose. Perhaps the ship's passengers hadn't died but survived and for whatever reason couldn't be rescued and were left behind. Maybe these accidental survivors became ancient humans on earth. I would loved to have seen more of Mill's planet. After all, isn't that why we watch these sci-fi's? To get a glimpse into other planets?

Fabulous musical. This is 2020's antidote, fun, buoyant and filled with deep, interesting sub-plots. Bravo!
