An incredible film, riveting from beginning to end. The story of a Hungarian Jew who survives the holocaust and makes his way to the USA, not knowing if his wife or anyone else from his family survived. Adrian Brody’s turns in a beautifully nuanced and rich portrayal of Lazlo’s anguish and brilliance in the face of not only what he had already experienced but the brutal self absorption of the American mentality where he is still considered less than - not only an immigrant but a Jew. Guy Pearce is also excellent as the overbearing bloated American millionaire who hires Brody. I’m surprised at some of the comments here and wonder what films might inspire the people who gave The Brutalist 1 star, Probably nothing I would go to see and I disagree with all those I’ve read here. The one which states Lazlo’s character didn’t develop? Ha ha ha. The one star reviews here say more about the people giving them than about the movie. This is one of the best films I’ve seen in years. Everything - was masterfully considered. I wouldn’t cut anything out.
