Historically this was a very interesting read. I liked the main character Caragh, she was strong, resilient,brave and compassionate. Her's was a sad story. I found the men to be brutal, fuelled with ego and toxic masculinity. Although one if the characters i liked as he showed some insight and understanding about the ridiculous idea of women being witches because of marks on their bodies etc. This is not a read for the faint hearted, yet I was compelled to keep reading as I cared about Caragh and the pregnant Wolf who has her own story and struggle throughout... Michael writes beautifully. My interest was kept throughout. Although this cleverly caught the atmosphere of West Yorkshire in the 17th Century which could be brutal and grim, there was still hope and kindness throughout the story. I enjoyed it....
