I really don’t understand the hate. Great acting, fairly unique story telling, the “oh right it’s a Shamylan” plot twists— it’s quite entertaining. Also, the soundtrack is better than the majority of top 40s songs even if you get upset about the nepotism. It brings a comedic air to a genre that’s stale with chewed up plots. This film doesn’t follow the copy-paste thriller format, there’s no intense action scenes and the horror tag on HBO max is significantly out of place. But that’s sorta the beauty in it, he wrote a thriller that isn’t just another Netflix attention grabber; it’s different in a refreshing way and I’m quite critical typically. Is it always believable and written to a scholarly psychological level? No, what did you expect? Shutter island and Old are significantly worse in my opinion on that front. Just watch the movie and stop trying to analyze it like a 10th grade English assignment. Probably worth only four stars but the 1 star reviewers are unbelievably pessimistic so I’ll be overly optimistic, I’ll gladly watch a sequel.
