The film has it's faults to be sure, hence four stars from me. However what it does well is to put over it's heavy-weight tone convincingly. This boils down to a good character drama between Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor, with the three being set on a collision course from the beginning of the film. Snyder does a great job of this, showing us the souls of each man and allowing us to empathise with them, while slowly building the stakes for the inevitable showdown. Although the film is far from perfect, it is convincingly epic and plays smart by rooting itself in human drama. I would give special mention to Jessie Eisenberg who gives a compelling performance of Luthor as a neurotic but cunning manipulator.
