A lot of complaints about this movie are regarding the non linear plot and I honestly think it doesn't matter as much as you think it does. The creepy atmosphere created by the director and all the sound effects keep you really absorbed in the story and you will understand what's happening most of the time. Kayako's death rattle and Toshio's meows are iconic and representative of J Horror in the aughts If you come looking for jump scares you would be better served by watching any other movie but if you want to be unnerved then this is a great movie

If you like stories that are like vignettes, flashes of a bigger story then you will like this one, the third part or third story is one of the most visceral sequences I've seen in a movie. Never a moment where I wasn't biting my nails or gripping the edge of my seat. The other 4 stories are mehh but worth a watch.
