The author’s World War II facts are all messed up in this book. She mentions Berlin being bombed in early 1940 but the bombing campaign did not start until Aug 1940. In addition, the chapter that opens in Poland in January 1941 mentions Russia having been invaded already when in fact Germany did not invade the Soviet Union until June 1941. I found these mishaps distracting from the story and ended up returning the book early. The author may not know her world history outside of art all that well, but her editors and publishers should have caught this.
