A film written by a man for men and seemingly reviewed well by men. The only redeeming aspect is the accuracy - outfits - items based in archeology digs.
The accents change regularly, the plot is slow and tiresome and the film is far to long for the story (retelling of hamlet) it's telling. There's no depth to any of the characters and Skarsgards line delivery is dull and flat throughout. It seems the director has an obsession with men imitating animals and just endless grunting/shouting. The first half was endlessly uncomfortable and scenes were odd and slow.
Nicole kidmans heavily botoxed and filler full face also does wonders to take you out of the time and her every changing accent is laughable and her acting hard to watch
It gets ever so slightly better in the second half but not reedmable. Anyone believing this to be good/arty and all the other words used by the 5 star reviewers I truly beleive think that slow motion shots, tense music and slow pacing makes for a "tense" "suspensful" film.
I didn't find this too gruesome or uncomfortable to watch in that sense as others have stated. It's purely the terrible writing, acting and pacing of the film
I wouldn't watch it again nor would I recommend it to anyone
