I recommend this movie.
I'm 18 years old, and I've watched this movie before when I was younger, and so I personally enjoy the movie just as anyone I know and anyone else at the younger age would agree it's a good movie, even now. Now, I do see many people saying the movie and such is bad, but this one isn't bad, maybe not great, but it's still up there combined with the first movie.
The story itself was very good overall, and the actors did fantastic, maybe not as much as the first but it still was good. (For those who day that Johnny Depp isn't meant for Mad Hatter, they're highly incorrect since no one else could have done better, along with the fact everyone knows Depp as Hatter for a role of his.)
Another thing on Hatter, majority are saying that this whole thing was about Hatter, but they don't seem to realize that the queens were mentioned as well, more referring to the past anyways, and so it was very interesting to see what happened with them.
As for the character Time, he was well played by the actor and was also very intriguing in terms of his own personality and also making the concept of how he has thought of himself "inevitable" and "invincible", but when it's the need end of the story he realizes that he truly is vincible in the end, I believe is a great way to show realization of reality. Since in reality, time is indeed vincible, and will end one day.
As for the side characters, yes, they may not have had much of a role compared to the first movie, but even so we still got to see them in parts considering we got to see the twins for example in the snow. Plus, even though they weren't as useful, we should still thank the fact they didn't appear, for example in Kung fu panda 4 we never saw the furious 5, which people indeed were upset about, but we still gained another point of view.
Another thing I've noticed, in terms of the critiques or people reviewing this, the majority seem too inclined with judging based on their own singular perspective instead of judging the movie based on the very genre it represents and all it has to hold for it, and so I find it disappointing to see how harsh some can be. If you're going to view or watch a movie and then give a review, judge it by the perspective of the genre, not your own personal judgement and perspective alone. If that makes sense.
E.x., if you watch a horror movie, judge it by horror. If you watch fantasy/fairytale (which this movie is), judge it like so.
Now, the reason it isn't a great nor perfect movie is because in terms of the red queens return, we unfortunately didn't see the "how" reasoning as to her escaping or coming out of prison from the first movie, What happened to the Red Knight whilst locked away (did the Red Queen kill him, or have him beheaded which would be ironic, etc), What else could have occurred to make the queens go against each other aside from the tarts and the crown ceremony, and How is it that the Red Queen and Time had came together?
In the end though, aside from all of that, this movie is indeed good and is definitely recommended to anyone with interest.
