The script is terrible, has the subtlety and depth of an adolescent schoolboy composition. A promising plot marred by risible dialogue and an apparent contempt for history; characters discuss their favourite books, 100 years before the printing press was invented, and refer to "novels"
which came long after that.
The end credits tell us Jean, Damon's character died in the Crusades which finished in 1291. The film is set in the late 1300s. There's so much wrong with this film that insults the intelligence and wastes the talents of some fine performers.
