I give it but three stars only because the author, who otherwise tells a joyful and compelling story, cannot stop himself from trashing half the country -- including readers like me -- first by not very disguised innuendo but finally, on page 193, by direct and cheap attack. I'm sorry you are dead, Mr. King, because I think I might have enjoyed showing you how forgiving we awful MAGA people can be. You praised our homeland (and practically walked past my house) and obviously enjoyed our company but sadly neglected to leave in Washington the supercilious and cosseted attitude that so far lost you two presidential elections and decimated your party. Apparently you made it to New York before you died. But I won't be finding out.
