Viewed as a fable, this great film acts as a bridge between reality and its extrapolations. The stand out performance by Vangelis Mourikis draws and binds the whole scenario together brilliantly.
Mourikis and Tsilimidos show eloquently that migrants do not exist in a ghetto, highlighting how multiculturalism works in practice.
They also show how you can do comedy without resorting to crass stereotypes that demean ethnic communities. Instead, the main character is granted immense authenticity, which in turn gives him great poignancy and dignity.
The film is fiction but it does not tick buzzword boxes. It does not apologise for itself and the manner in which it portrays members of ethnic minorities is sensitive and devastatingly accurate.
Its bittersweet aftertaste emphasises the importance of kindness, forebearance and forgiveness, without at all being preachy. All in all, a great experience.
