This movie is fantastic. To all of the people who gave it a one-star review, I can't understand your point of view, and I wonder if you enjoy whimsy or fun in your life. Because this movie is super fun! I just felt like I needed to prove the haters wrong and defend the things that are the most hated. Spoiler warning!
To everyone who thinks that this movie is incredibly unfunny, how dare you. Yes, this movie is more sarcastic and blunt. Do they have recurring bits and jokes? Yes. That's the point. From the "Baggins" name to people knowing the specific brand of car that Selena Gomez's character has, to the "A wild animal? Multiple wild animals?", and especially to the 4th wall breaks.
Those jokes are reoccurring because that's the whole point. The characters are dry and unbothered, and they all think and say the same things. It's dry humor that runs off of bits and deadpan delivery. If that isn't for you, then that's fine. But don't say that it's bad humor, because it's brilliant.
They play the same song over and over again. They bring up the fact that it's the same song over and over again. It's supposed to be like that. This movie's soundtrack is supposed to be simple, and other than some background music with no lyrics every once in a while, there is no other music. It fits with this movie's tone. There isn't a reason to have unneeded music added in, and the people watching this movie should be aware of that.
The plot is brilliant. It's simple and easy to understand because the creator of this movie doesn't want anyone to misinterpret the meaning. I don't think it's commenting on consumerism like a lot of other people think it's about. I think it's telling you to enjoy the time you have in this world and to be careful with how you spend the little time you have. I believe this is reinforced by many zombies looking for things they used to enjoy when they were alive. Plus, it's one of the quotes in the movie. But I think that everyone can interpret the meaning of the movie in their own way, and that's fine. Infinite interpretations, and all that stuff.
I think that everyone upset about the story wants something really over the top and overdone. They want dramatics. Which is what this movie is trying NOT to do. It takes place in a small town away from the rest of the world for a reason. It's to focus on the characters and their personalities, and for the audience to appreciate all of their uniqueness.
This cast is amazing. That's something that even people who hate this movie will agree with. And I think that all of the actors visibly had fun with this movie, and the way that everyone plays off of each other is super enjoyable.
The Chief and Ronnie are all the characters that I enjoy the most. The reason that The Chief and Ronnie don't crack and are incredibly nonchalant throughout the movie is that they already know what's going to happen. They are aware that they're in a movie, and they talk about this in the first 10 minutes, when they recognize the song from the intro and break the 4th wall.
Everyone's character acts a certain way for a reason. They don't need to grow, because there's no reason for them to change. What you see is what you get. I wish more people didn't see such an issue with that, because it's perfectly fine.
I would give this movie a try if you haven't! It's super fun, and I think it's getting a lot of hate for reasons I don't really agree with.
