I’ve played the F1 franchise for as long as I can remember - and I still can’t work out if it’s EA prioritising the money, or if the licensing agreements with the teams/drivers are so restrictive that no matter who made this franchise, it will never be as good as it could be.
Look at the F1 season last year - the events and drama that unfolded.
Then drive a season on F1 2022.
Just doesn’t compare.
Other teams don’t have enduring car issues or benefits, other drivers don’t make mistakes, or masterful moves. In race events are limited, compared to the real world. Chaos theory and unpredictability play no part. There are no politics, anywhere, and nothing is allowed to cast even the slightest shade on anyone.
As a player, we’re never allowed into the ‘drivers circle’ as the season progresses. Events on track are never spoken of off it. Rivals are just a score line in the post race stats, and we plough on in our own little bubble.
In 2021, Braking Point felt like the start of a new era - finally we got a glimpse of that rivalry and politics (however clunky, isolated, nameless and short lived it was)
But that wasn’t deemed worth continuing, somehow. Clearly we’ll never be allowed to implicate any current driver or team in any storylines, heaven forbid one’s that don’t paint them in a spotless light.
Be nice though.
Maybe there’s room for a non licensed game - with a field of fictional (or guest star) drivers…..but I live in very shallow hope.
